As we begin learning about Worship and Sacrifice, we must first ask ourselves,
What is Worship?
What is Sacrifice?
If we do not have a proper understanding of these things, then as we discuss them, we will never come to a true understanding. My prayer is that as we investigate the scriptures, that we will understand even more the meaning of these and how we can apply them to our lives.
Worship – Honoring and lifting high another as higher than yourself out of a heart of love in response to God’s word, act, or nature.
Sacrifice – Giving up completely something that is greatly important to you for the benefit of another because you love them.
Here, I am talking specifically of the worshiping God, but we worship and lift high so many things that are undeserving. Food, sleep, money, fashion, entertainment, sports, people, can all be worshiped in spite of not being worth it. In this one statement, you may be feeling judged and your toes may feel stepped on, but this is the reality of the matter in my life as well as the lives of so many others.
We have a struggle in the morning when our alarms go off whether we will rise and spend time with the Lord worshiping Him or worship the god of sleep that is so seductive especially when it comes time to make the decision. I could go on and on about each one of these, but every time we choose these things over obedience to God and love for Him, we are worshiping them and lifting them high as the important things in our lives.
In 2 Chronicles 21, we come to learn that we worship God when we accept His word and are obedient without doubting or questioning what He says. Jehosophat had no direct command of God to put His worshipers on the front lines. They did it out of an act of obedience and thus worshiped God by being obedient and trusting in the word of God.
In Genesis 22, Abraham is called to sacrifice his son that God had just revealed was the son of promise. Abraham trusted God in such a way that as they went to the mountain in Vs. 5 Abraham says we go to worship. Abraham’s heart of sacrifice is a true act of worship to God. He was willing to give whatever God asked in obedience out of his great love for Him.
In John 4,
What Jesus mean to worship God in Spirit and truth?
- God wants a constant communion with you in the day to day. He does not want you to worship Him in a church or at your house only, but in the Spirit everywhere you go in every situation that you are in.
- God wants you to be honest with Him. You cannot fool God. He sees the thoughts and intentions of your heart. If you are giving Him something small and seemingly mediocre out of a good heart, it is greater worship than giving the very most you have out of a wrong heart. (1 Cor 13:3)
In Malachi 1, God desires our very best. If we bring God half-hearted worship out of duty, these things are not pure and holy and actually dishonor and disrespect God. He would rather no one worship than to have duty-filled worship out of grudging hearts. He wants pure and holy worship that is a true witness to who He is. This only comes when we are giving God our best out of a willing and loving heart.
In 2 Samuel 24, David reveals that God is blessed by our sacrifice more than he is blessed by our excess. We see this concept over and over throughout the Bible that when we give God something valuable to us, that is true worship. Those giving because they have extra does not impress God. Jesus states this in a different way when talking of the widow in Mark 12:41-44. God desires our pure and holy sacrifice so He can bless us with better than our very best!!!
Finally, in Luke 7, a “sinner” probably a prostitute comes in to the middle of the pastors and elders of their day. She humbles herself completely to the judgmental and critical thoughts and stares and worships Jesus. This “sinner” sacrificed more and gave more in worship than anyone else around. Because of her sacrifice and true heart of worship, her sins are forgiven, and she is saved. She was forgiven much and so loved much. The fact that she loved much caused her to sacrifice her most valuable possession and her pride as an act of worship to Jesus.
Does you love cause you to sacrifice your pride and valuables in worship to the Lord?
Nothing I have spoken is out of judgment or condemnation, but Holy Spirit has even convicted me in studying these things. Our love for God will always lead us to a true worship which is displayed in what we are willing to sacrifice for our True Love.
Ask Holy Spirit these questions and be obedient in what He is speaking:
Are you giving your very best to God? This is true worship.
What is God calling you to sacrifice to love Him and worship Him in a deeper way?
May you be blessed with knowing more of the Love of God than ever before, and may you receive the fullness of the blessing that comes through true worship and sacrifice.
Jeremiah, Man on Fire!!!
Before we left on our journey, my sister had a prophetic vision for us. This vision was rather long, but part of it included that God would give us unique words and prayers to pray into the problems in the countries that we would be ministering in. God has been faithful to reveal to my wife, myself, or both of us unique things to pray over each place.
Upon our arrival, we rode with Pastor JoseMaria and his wife from the airport to his house. He mentioned casually that the night before we had come, an unusually strong wind had woken him up twice during the night. We thought nothing of this until we were praying and seeking the Lord the next day. God began to speak to us both, separately, that this was the wind of the Holy Spirit. After this was revealed, I began to study the characteristics of Holy Spirit and how the wind is used to describe Him. As I did, The Lord led me to Ezekiel 37. Here, The Lord takes Ezekiel to a field of dry bones. He tells him to prophesy to the bones. All the bones come together and flesh and skin even comes to the bones, but these people are still dead. Then Ezekiel is commanded to prophesy to the “Ru’ah” (this is the Hebrew word for wind and it is used interchangeably for wind, breath, and Spirit) that the bones may come to life.
Here, in Spain, the spiritual climate could be described as a dry and dead one. The church is Catholic, but none of the young people go to church. Those that do, often go out of duty and obligation and never out of desire to know God. However, Spain has a rich history and is even said to be a place where Paul journeyed during his lifetime.
There may be bones here, but bones speak that there was once life!!! No matter how hopeless and dry these bones seem, the wind of Holy Spirit is coming to breathe new life into these bones. When the Spirit comes it brings change to the climate. Even as the wind of the Holy Spirit is bringing life to the bones, He is ushering in a change of climate that is bringing the rains of revival. My wife shares here Rains of Revival what God has spoken to her on this subject, and this is how we have been praying for Spain. I believe that the churches are coming together in unity and begin to be formed into the body that they are supposed to be. As we pray and cry out for Holy Spirit to pour himself out upon this land, He will usher in revival and all that comes with it!!!
I urge you to pray this out not only over Spain, but over your life as well!!! In all of our lives, we have places where life has gone and death has come. Where is the vision of our younger years? Where is the passion of the Gospel we once had? Where is the faith in The Lord we were so eager to live in obedience to? Where has the desire to give ourselves as living sacrifices to The Lord and spend our time coming to know Him more?
Without the life and freedom Holy Spirit brings, we are walking in that valley of dry bones!!! I say to you prophesy to Holy Spirit and cry out to Him that the spiritually dead things in you may come back to life!!! Cry out to The Good Father and know “…your Heavenly Father [shall] give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” (Luke 11:13).
Jeremiah, Man on Fire!!!
God is moving quickly and He now has us in Scotland! The call to come here was so evident and was what I believe to be the widest open door that we have had so far. We have been more than welcome here and have been privileged to partake in numerous ministry opportunities. While on the plane traveling to Scotland, I was praying for the Lord to show us what we were to do here as well as claiming a word from my sister-in-law, Tiffany, that God would reveal to us what the spiritual needs of the countries and places we travel to are. The Lord then gave me a vision of a large lighthouse with a bright light shining directly up to the Heavens placed atop a vast hill. There were many believers gathered around it praying, worshipping and asking the Lord to “Open the Heavens Wide.” Each time that this was sung, the intensity of their passion grew and they poured out more of themselves into this prayer. With each growing cry, the light shone brighter and grew larger. As this progressed, a hole began to open in the clouds and the glory of the Lord filled the sky as the beam of light reached into the Heavens. The hole opened up even more and this continued until the people gave absolutely everything that was within them. Then, the light in the Heavens (God’s presence) exploded and came down and filled the plush, green land. When it dissipated, particles of light began to appear all across the land and missiles of light shot out to nations all across the world.
The Lord revealed to me through this vision that Scotland is alive but for too long it has remained dormant awaiting an awakening. The people gathered around the lighthouse and the particles of light are those that are meeting and contending for a swift move of God to fall upon the nation as it has before. Unity must be a main piece of how this change will come. God gave me Ephesians 5:1-14 which is all about living in the light, being children of light, Christ is the light. The main verse being Ephesians 5:14, “Arise, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” Isaiah 60:1-3 says, “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
The interesting thing upon sharing this vision with the people here is that God has revealed this same vision to other Americans who were then led here upon His call. A woman years ago had a vision of 400 lighthouses. I met a man at GHOP (Glasgow House of Prayer) from my hometown who received a similar vision of the lights and missiles reaching out to the nations that eventually led him here to stay. Another American woman spoke of a lighthouse whose light (revival) spread from the northwest to the east, as mine did. There are over 100 cities/towns where Lighthouses of Prayer are taking place in Scotland, of all denominations and backgrounds praying for this move. We’ve met a few leaders of the groups and the lighthouse is a very significant symbol to them. We’ve found that there is a lot of prayers going up but a lack of unity among the churches and ministries which has been taking place for centuries.
Please join us in prayer for Scotland that the spirit of division would be destroyed and that unity would be restored to the people. Psalm 133 says that where there is unity, the Lord commands blessing. Light= what is Good + Right + Pure. Christ is the Light. I urge you to take hold of these verses and to be that beacon of light that helps usher in awakening. If there is any place in your life where there is a lack of unity or broken relationships, I encourage you to do your part in mending them so that unity will come that will bring forth blessing. What better blessing than to see Scotland, your nation and all nations be revived and set on fire for Jesus!!!
