Call to Go (Southeast Asia)

I remember now why I do not take showers in the morning in Asia. The bone-chilling cold water should be reserved for after sweating all day in the heat. However, I am truly awake now as I write this.  This is just one of the few things when God has called us to go, we must give up to say yes.

Your will, your way, your wants and desires are always difficult to give up. “I want it my way.” You may not ever say it out loud, but this is the way you are. I know this, because this is the way I am.  Graciously, the Lord granted me several confirmations that this was a trip I was supposed to be on. I do not often get such clear direction and continually receive confirmation I am supposed to go. I usually just give Him my Yes out of faith.

After the 30+ hours of travel, I can say thank the Lord for giving me the ability to say Yes. Sitting on a plane for any extended amount of time is physically uncomfortable, to put it mildly. However, for me, it has always been hard to sleep so it becomes that much more difficult. But none of this matters because I have said Yes to Jesus and His call for me to go. Unfamiliar places, faces, food, accommodations… None of this really matters for I have given my whole-hearted Yes to Jesus and His way.

The people here are worth it because He loves them. Even more than that, He is worth it and I love Him!!! Right now, in your life, what is of the greatest value? What do you love the most? What would you hold on to if everything else was stripped away? What if God called you to give that up to Go for Him?  Could you do it?

My prayer for you is that you hear the call of the Lord to Go and that you say as Isaiah did, “Here I am, send Me!!! No matter the cost, no matter the price I will follow You and say Yes!!!” Jesus is worth flying to the other side of the world and giving up so much! In the same way, He is worth it to lay down your fear, pride, selfishness, to walk next door, up the street, down the fruit aisle… Or wherever else He may have you. He is worth it to give all that You have to speak His good news!!! He gave first, and He gave His best for you.

What do you have to give the Creator of the Universe???

I give You my, Yes and my obedience!!! Here I am!!! Send Me!!!

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

The Love that Binds

As we have been traveling, we have been praying for three specific things: provision, protection, and open doors to the nations. Time and time again, God has been faithful to open doors that only He can. When we set out 5 months ago, we never dreamed of some of the doors He would open. Scotland was a surprise for sure, but it was in the UK which was a place we knew we would be going. However, God opened an unexpected door for us to be in Kosovo for a short time. This was not a place we ever thought that we would be coming. God knew that He needed us here, so He opened the door wide.

One of my friends contacted me and said that she had been following our adventures on our blog and knew that God was telling her to invite us to come to Kosovo. I had never gotten to know her very well, and in fact did not even know she was in Kosovo. Even though we had not been in contact for 2 years, she invited us. We had a difficult time making the decision to come because of our money situation, but we knew that God had opened the door and that we must be obedient to walk through it.

Knowing we were coming here, my wife decided to do some research about the recent wars that had taken place. As she researched, and we prayed about this country, even before we traveled here, God began to speak to me. He began to speak about how the nation was wounded and needed to be healed. As with any serious wound, you do not put a Band-aid on it and walk away. Any serious wound needs to be stitched up. I know this from many injuries in my younger days. The larger and more serious the wound, the more stitches are needed. God began to speak about how every prayer and every act of love was a stitch that was binding up an open wound. This wound that may be healed on the outside must be healed in the soul of the nation as well. If the wound of the soul is not healed, it will often be reopened as a self-inflicted one.

I believe that the long-term prayers and actions of the church and ministries here is to bind love to the spiritual wound of the people. There has been so much suffering and hurt in the people that it seems like their very lives evidence a wounded spirit. This spirit is hurt deeply and ready for conflict. However, as the family of God binds love to the people, this will bring healing stitch by stitch, act by act, prayer by prayer… I found this verse as a confirmation of the work that needs to be done here in Kosovo, but also anywhere the people of God are.

Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

We are called to live as God’s chosen people. Even as we live in this manner, we know two things. We have wounds in our hearts and souls inflicted by people around us, and people around us also have these wounds. It seems that so many people are walking around with open wounds. We are commanded in these verses to live rightly, forgive completely, and love totally. We must bind love to ourselves and to the people around us that we may walk in perfect unity.

Ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you any wounds that you may have on your soul. Do these wounds come from others? Are these wounds remaining open because of unforgiveness or an unwillingness to love? Are there people around you that might be spiritually wounded?

With the help of Holy Spirit, begin to bind up these wounds and start the healing process in yourself, as well as the people around you, by forgiving and binding love to these wounds. Part of the ministry of Jesus, and our ministry, is to bind up the broken hearted (Luke 4:18). Let us walk in the ministry that God has called us to that we may live in perfect unity!!!

Stand Fast in Freedom

What a year 2013 was!!! In short it was (Fire by Night and new friends, the Proposal, long months of waiting, Encounter God’s Presence youth camp, confirmation of our calling, marriage, honeymoon in Mexico, beginning of Gibson’s Go Global, flying to NYC on Sept 11, Circuit Riders in Norway, YWAM and Fire Starters in Scotland, Christmas and New Year in Newcastle) not that short. I know for many of us, this was a busy year and we should be able to look back and see how we have changed. If there has been no change between this year and last year, it is seriously time to examine if we are walking in God’s will. I am not talking about a physical location, although in our case it obviously was. I am talking about how you have changed in your relationship with The Lord. I encourage you to review your year with Holy Spirit and see what you find out.

This morning, God has given me an encouragement that I want to pass on to you:
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
I can see as I look back over my life, even in the last year, how much that God has brought me into greater and greater freedom. He has strengthened us and empowered us to walk in this new freedom. Even when we are tempted to fall back into old things, we have the strength to stand fast!!! We must stand in the freedom that Christ has bought with so great a price and not go back to having bent and broken backs under the weight and oppression of sin that the enemy deceives us into thinking is better somehow. Do not be entangled again, but walk in the glorious freedom that has been given to us!!!

What kind of freedom is this? Unrestrained selfish freedom? Of course not!!! We know that is not freedom but only bondage to ourselves. A few verses later, we see the freedom that is called for:
Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
This is not a selfish fleshly freedom, but a freedom in Holy Spirit that encourages us to love others in greater and greater ways. We like to explain the freedom of The Lord as we can say, do, watch, listen to whatever we want because we are free in Christ. Through this verse, we see that our freedom is not to be one that satisfies our flesh, but we are spiritually free to love and serve others with our actions. It is such a tragedy in my mind when Christians talk down the standards of other Christians or try to get them to compromise their convictions. There was one instance I know of that everyone was watching a movie with some coarse language. They knew that there was a girl who did not watch or listen to anything with language as much as she could control. Knowing this, the girls apologized to her, but were unwilling to turn off the movie. This was neither loving or serving this girl or the standards Holy Spirit had set up for her. Was this godly freedom? I think not!!! This was the selfish freedom that leads into bondage but no one saw the deception of the enemy.

I am so glad for those who call us to higher standards with their freedom of loving and serving. One quick story, while in YWAM my leader Sage was constantly challenging me in a healthy way. The week before we went to Outreach in Cambodia, we had a team fast. Getting through that was okay, but then he tells me that he is going to do a Daniel fast for the first 40 days of the trip. My thought is “Good luck pal!!!” Then, thinking of all that we wanted God to accomplish and why we were really there, I decided that I would join him. He did not pressure me or even ask me to join him. I was just encouraged to walk with Him in freedom as we loved and served each other. You know I look back now and do not regret one moment of that fast. Yes, it was extremely hard, but I believe that God is worth it!!!

I encourage you as this New Year begins 2014, stand fast in the freedom God has given you and walk in it in such a way that the people around you are affected by the freedom, love, and service you have for them. I pray that those around you who are the closest and those who barely know you will be called to the deeper and greater things of The Lord because of the consecrated life of freedom you are walking in!!!

God’s Got Your Back!!!

The adventure that God has called us to has finally begun.  It is almost surreal to realize that I am married to the most beautiful woman that God blessed me with, and that our global journey has begun!  God is so awesome, and He knows that if I had tried to do things my way, in either of these situations, I would have royally messed things up! But God blessed me and I was obedient so I am where I am today.

God in His wisdom knows that we need continued confirmation of what He is doing so He confirmed our ministry again with an undeniable appointment.  Our flight to NY took us first  to North Carolina.  While we were waiting for our flight to DFW to arrive, Katie turned to me and said she thought she recognized one of the guys waiting with us to board the plane.  She thought it was one of the brothers of someone from our church.  I almost went and asked him, but just briefly mentioned to God that if it was him, I might be able to talk to him on the plane or something.  Well, we boarded the plane and sat down and along comes this fellow, Larry, and he was seated right next to Katie.  Before he sat down, I asked him if his name was Larry and he gave me this bewildered look.  Eventually, I explained the whole situation and we got to share with him about what we were doing and where we were headed.

It was great that God took care of all the hard stuff because He knew!  When we were getting ready to land, I switched seats with Katie so that she could watch all the scenery and was now sitting next to Larry.  I had seen that often when he was talking, he would move his neck in an abnormal way.  I asked him if it was hurting, and he explained how he had been in a car accident when he was 19.  His neck had hurt ever since.  I got to talk to him a while about healing and eventually he said to me, “Yeah, I can handle that.” And asked me to pray on the spot for him.  I was actually about to ask him if I could pray, but he beat me to it.  I was a little disappointed that his neck was not instantaneously healed, but I felt Holy Spirit moving as I prayed.

I pray that he was blessed through our conversations and prayer for him.  Obviously, God set all this up in a way that we could not mess up unless we really were trying hard.  He also used this as a confirmation that we were where we were supposed to be and that He was leading our every step.

I want to encourage just like the title said that God has got your back!  He works all things together for His good to them that love Him!  As you go through this life, whether you are on a plane, in the workplace, in the store, school, or whatever; always be looking for what God is doing and where He is calling you to speak.  He sets up these little appointments that you can ignore or walk away from.  However, you are always called to be a blessing to those around you.  As long as you are listening to the Lord and obedient to His calling, amazing things will happen and you just get to be a part of the work that God is doing.

I bless you with the ability to know the Lord and walk with Him in such a way that you know He has got your back and will not let you mess things up.  Walk in the power of the Lord and be a blessing to all those around you!!!

The Beginning!!!

It is always hard to identify where something like this begins.  How do two people get to the point where they leave everything behind and against the wisdom of the world GO!!!  But I am getting ahead of myself.

Many of you may not have heard exactly what is taking place.  God has granted to me to start one of the greatest adventures of my life becoming the husband to a Beautiful Bride!!!  At the time this blog is being written, we are just under the 3 week mark, 19 days to be exact, from the time we will become One, Always and Forever!!!  I could not be a more blessed man than when God opened my eyes to His very best that was right in front of me!!!

I had been searching for a youth pastor position for more than 4 years with relatively no success. I had one offer from a church that I knew I could never work for.  About 2 months before the date of the wedding, God confirmed in both Katie and myself that I was to “close the door” to looking for a youth pastor position.  This sent us into a time of intensely seeking the Lord about the next step in our lives.  I had a sense that we would be going, but did not let Katie know so I did not influence what God was saying to her.  One month before the wedding, God confirmed this in Katie.  This set us on a week of intense prayer and fasting and seeking the Lord.  Before the week was up, God had given us very clear direction that we were supposed to go with haste into the nations.  He called us to begin going Northeast and to travel to churches encouraging, strengthening, and discipling while setting people on fire with the sustainable Fire of His Presence!!!  Several specific nations were revealed, along with more than 8 pages of words that now began to make sense.

After so long in crying out for a word of direction, both Katie and I were more than beyond ourselves to be obedient to whatever God had for us.  Even better than this, it is what we wanted to do!!!  God has given us the desires of our hearts and was waiting for the correct time to reveal it to us so that we were able and willing to be completely obedient and walk in full faith that He would fulfill everything that He promised!!!

We will be updating more as we go about words, dreams, and visions that have been confirmations that we are supposed to go!!! I want to encourage you, that the whole time you are crying out to the Lord, He hears you and is working!!!  He is preparing you and the place He is calling you to. When everything is in order, you are the strongest and most ready to partner with Him.  The only time you fail is if you give up or settle along the way or if you are disobedient to what He is calling you to do!  There is a saying that one of my mentors always uses in talking about purity but applies to everything that God has for us.  Never settle for less than God’s very Best!!!  I encourage you to take some time right now, examine your life and ask Holy Spirit to reveal any place where you are living less than He has for you.  Be obedient to Him and walk into the very Best that He has been planning and preparing especially for you!!!
