Stand Fast in Freedom

What a year 2013 was!!! In short it was (Fire by Night and new friends, the Proposal, long months of waiting, Encounter God’s Presence youth camp, confirmation of our calling, marriage, honeymoon in Mexico, beginning of Gibson’s Go Global, flying to NYC on Sept 11, Circuit Riders in Norway, YWAM and Fire Starters in Scotland, Christmas and New Year in Newcastle) not that short. I know for many of us, this was a busy year and we should be able to look back and see how we have changed. If there has been no change between this year and last year, it is seriously time to examine if we are walking in God’s will. I am not talking about a physical location, although in our case it obviously was. I am talking about how you have changed in your relationship with The Lord. I encourage you to review your year with Holy Spirit and see what you find out.

This morning, God has given me an encouragement that I want to pass on to you:
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
I can see as I look back over my life, even in the last year, how much that God has brought me into greater and greater freedom. He has strengthened us and empowered us to walk in this new freedom. Even when we are tempted to fall back into old things, we have the strength to stand fast!!! We must stand in the freedom that Christ has bought with so great a price and not go back to having bent and broken backs under the weight and oppression of sin that the enemy deceives us into thinking is better somehow. Do not be entangled again, but walk in the glorious freedom that has been given to us!!!

What kind of freedom is this? Unrestrained selfish freedom? Of course not!!! We know that is not freedom but only bondage to ourselves. A few verses later, we see the freedom that is called for:
Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
This is not a selfish fleshly freedom, but a freedom in Holy Spirit that encourages us to love others in greater and greater ways. We like to explain the freedom of The Lord as we can say, do, watch, listen to whatever we want because we are free in Christ. Through this verse, we see that our freedom is not to be one that satisfies our flesh, but we are spiritually free to love and serve others with our actions. It is such a tragedy in my mind when Christians talk down the standards of other Christians or try to get them to compromise their convictions. There was one instance I know of that everyone was watching a movie with some coarse language. They knew that there was a girl who did not watch or listen to anything with language as much as she could control. Knowing this, the girls apologized to her, but were unwilling to turn off the movie. This was neither loving or serving this girl or the standards Holy Spirit had set up for her. Was this godly freedom? I think not!!! This was the selfish freedom that leads into bondage but no one saw the deception of the enemy.

I am so glad for those who call us to higher standards with their freedom of loving and serving. One quick story, while in YWAM my leader Sage was constantly challenging me in a healthy way. The week before we went to Outreach in Cambodia, we had a team fast. Getting through that was okay, but then he tells me that he is going to do a Daniel fast for the first 40 days of the trip. My thought is “Good luck pal!!!” Then, thinking of all that we wanted God to accomplish and why we were really there, I decided that I would join him. He did not pressure me or even ask me to join him. I was just encouraged to walk with Him in freedom as we loved and served each other. You know I look back now and do not regret one moment of that fast. Yes, it was extremely hard, but I believe that God is worth it!!!

I encourage you as this New Year begins 2014, stand fast in the freedom God has given you and walk in it in such a way that the people around you are affected by the freedom, love, and service you have for them. I pray that those around you who are the closest and those who barely know you will be called to the deeper and greater things of The Lord because of the consecrated life of freedom you are walking in!!!

My Weakness Becomes His Strength

I know that it has been a while since I have written, but I praise the Lord that we continue to get great ministry opportunities to be a part of and press into all that God has for us on this trip. A few days ago, we got to fellowship with one of the friends I made in Harpenden last year at Circuit Riders, the leader of the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Discipleship Training Schools (DTS) and his wife. As we talked and later prayed together, I got the opportunity to share a recent testimony that encouraged and spoke to him, and I pray that it encourages you as well!!!

Two weeks ago, I got the privilege to speak at the church of one of my friends here in Newcastle. I had met him last summer during the Circuit Rider outreach here. This was right before he became the pastor at Gateway Church and was at St. Luke’s where we were based out of. On one of our many days to go out and do evangelism, Sam joined me and we went around looking for where God was moving and trying to talk to people. We tried many times to start some sort of conversation with people but were seemingly blocked at every turn. Finally, we did get to talk to two gentlemen for a while even though they were obviously just wanting someone to talk to and did not really care about what we were saying. Apparently, Sam went out later with Jedidah and Heidi who have a gift of evangelism and talked to many people.

Sam shared with me, while we were eating lunch with him and his wife this year after I had preached, that he was rather encouraged when he went out with me. I found this very odd since it seemed hard and laborious and is definitely not my gifting. However, it seems that God was able to speak to him through this weakness and encourage him. He saw how even though this was not my gift, I was still being obedient. This led him to be obedient and lead many street evangelism teams with his church even though this is not his gifting either.

For me, this was an amazing testimony because all last year during Circuit Riders, I never got the privilege of leading anyone to The Lord. However just like Jesus said to Paul “my strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor 12:9) He spoke this to me as well. Even though this was an area where I was obviously weak, I had a desire to be obedient and grow. Even though it seemed like I was failing and every outward indication was that there was no fruit from my efforts, God used it. God used my weakness to encourage a man who was about to become a pastor to lead his church on continuous evangelistic outreaches. In a way, God used my weakness and obedience in a manner that allows me to take part in every salvation that comes out of Sam’s church. God is awesome, and if Sam had not told me this, I would never have had any idea that God had used my weak obedience in such a mighty way.

My encouragement to you is to be obedient in every area. Even in the places that you feel weak, unqualified, like you have failed, or are just no good, be obedient!!! He is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask for, hope for, or even imagine” even with our weaknesses!!! He is able to turn every one of your weaknesses into strengths and every one of your supposed defeats into great victories if you are completely obedient and submitted to Him!!! Ask Holy Spirit right now where you can be completely obedient and submitted to Him and move into that place no matter if you feel weak or strong in that area. He will make His name great so do everything to please Him completely!!!

Bound By Fear

As our time here in Norway draws near an end, I find myself reflecting upon all that has taken place over the last month. ¬†The culture here is quite different from back home and way colder, yet I have found myself feeling at home in many ways. ¬†We have over our stay attended the house church at Kjetil’s parents with him and we enjoy them and the other couple that is part of it. ¬†It reminds me quite a bit of the group that we started over a year ago back home, Fire By Night. ¬†It is nice being able to spend quality time with them enjoying a fine Norwegian meal (of which I first experienced lamb) and then tea and coffee time of true fellowship. ¬†There is such freedom there as we continue into worship and the word.

The first night that we attended, Jeremiah and I were asked to lead so we took that as an invitation for Jeremiah to proudly introduce his homemade award-winning chili to them, most of which had never experienced the greatness of chili! ¬†We met that night, Jan and Katrine, the other couple of the group. ¬†I have grown very fond of Katrine, a Norwegian Brit with the coolest accent and personality that I have ever encountered! ¬†She even invited me for coffee the next day and blessed me with a straightener after being without for 2 weeks after mine committed suicide in Harpenden, London…(God is faithful to provide!) ¬†We shared that night what we had learned at Circuit Riders as well as a word that the Lord had given Jeremiah as we embarked to Norway. ¬†After much discussion time, we were given prophetic words from the group and I was blessed to have received a prophetic word from the Lord for them as Norwegians for their country.

House Church pic attempt #3

The next week, Katrine led the word. ¬†She had been moved to deep thought after the previous week about evangelism, what drives us in doing it or not doing it, and how to make practical steps to do it. ¬†She works as a coach to help people for interviews, etc. so she made a very thought-provoking question sheet, we split into partners and went through the worksheet to discover the answers. ¬†One of the biggest realizations that were brought forth through the discussion was that fear is the main hindrance that grips us. ¬†We were asked what we thought the definition of fear was. ¬†According to Miriam-Webster’s definition, fear is an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of¬†danger,¬†or False Expectations Appearing Real. ¬†To me, fear is anything that binds, robs, and keeps you from fulfilling God’s purpose and plans for your life. ¬†Fear’s very nature is to deceive.¬†¬†The truth is fear is not from God.¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”¬†

Fear has become (at least in America) an alluring stronghold in the majority of people and the sad thing is that so many, like myself at one time, don’t realize the hold it may have on them. ¬†It hides in the horror/thriller movies, ghost-hunting, zombie, tv shows and games, Halloween is celebrated mostly through preying on people’s fears and drawing them forth…all with the excuse that it’s make-believe, not real, so it’s okay to partake in it. ¬†These all and more open the door for the enemy to bring fear into your life. ¬†It is truly demonic, not of God. ¬†Furthermore, it hides subtly in everyday life and I have discovered that it has the most diverse flavors. ¬†Fear of man (insecurity), fear of punishment (little peace, joy, hope, faith), fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of the past, and sudden natural fears. ¬†I know because I have been at the hand of all of these for the majority of my life. ¬†Fear robbed me of so much that God had for me. ¬†It was not until I was given the revelation that called out fear for the liar that it was that I was able to gain freedom from each of these and only after that was I free to walk in what God was calling me to fully. ¬†It is a daily decision to not allow fear in my life, and becomes more apparent the more aware I am of it’s grips. ¬†Had I allowed fear to do what it does best, I would not be here in Norway doing ministry out of the fear of the unknown (how God would provide, what the rest of the trip looks like), failure, fear of man. ¬†I would not have even began a relationship with my now husband because of fear of man (literally), abandonment and past hurts. ¬†I would still be a shy, insecure, timid woman bound in a life of sickness, depression and living unfulfilled. ¬†(Truth.)

I encourage you to examine your life and ask the Lord to show you any area in your life where fear may have a stronghold and where you may be living unfulfilled. ¬†Fear can’t just hinder evangelism, it can hinder everything that God has for you and how He wants to change the world through you. ¬†The dogs of doom stand at the door of destiny. ¬†I remind you of a quote by Amy Sollars,¬†‚ÄúThe enemy‚Äôs greatest fear is that we will realize who God has made us to be and we will walk in it.‚ÄĚ ¬†¬†Don’t let satan bind you up in fear, but bind him up in fear by embracing everything that God has made you to be and do!

Run to the Battle!!!

The last week has been crazy and full of crazy revival fire being poured out upon us and upon Norway!!!  Circuit Riders in Grimerud, Norway was awesomely epic.  We met so many amazing people and told our story multiple times, at least 10 times, every single day.  It seems that our obedience is an encouragement all over the world.  We made some great contacts and we will see if God opens any doors with the people we met here.  I also got to see some old friends from my time in Hawaii.  It was truly a God filled week!!!

During worship, and the personal time I had with The Lord, I was meditating on the word He had given me for Norway. You can check out the previous word In the post titled “News from Norway”. While I was thinking about this, He gave me a phrase “Run to the Battle!!!” ¬†The Christians in Norway, and everywhere else around the world for that matter, cannot sit back and let the enemy do whatever he wants. We are called to run to where the battle is and attack the enemy so that he is unable to take any more ground. ¬†On top of that, we are supposed to push him back and cast him out of the places that are rightfully the Lords.

God blesses us when we run to the battle with miraculous victory! He will not let us fall or allow us to be overcome when we stand and fight for Him!!! Joshua 10:1-15 tells us of a time when Joshua led the people to run to a battle.  It says that they traveled all night to get to where their allies were being attacked before it was too late.  They arrived and The Lord put the enemy into confusion and then sent a hailstorm and killed more people with hail than they did with the sword.  Then, God made the sun stand still in the heavens so that they could defeat the entire army before they escaped.  God miraculously defeated a 5 army combined force because Joshua was willing to run to a battle that he probably did not really want to get involved with (See Joshua 9).

In our own lives, we must not sit back and watch as the enemy takes ground or destroys our allies. We cannot sit back and do nothing while the enemy gains power around us and takes away our strength.  The minute that we quit fighting or running to where the battle is, that is when we get overrun.  It reminds me of Lord of the Rings where they were fighting to hold the wall.  The enemy was ever attacking and changing tactics and coming from different sides. The heroes were protected inside the wall as long as they ran to where the enemy was attacking and fought them off.  When they were unable to do so, the wall fell!

Be strong and full of courage because The Lord fights our battles for us! He gives us the strength to run and the wisdom to know where to run and it is our duty to run to the battle and destroy the works of the enemy!!! When you fight with The Lord, even against impossible odds, He will bring about an awesome victory because of who He is!!!
