The Love that Binds

As we have been traveling, we have been praying for three specific things: provision, protection, and open doors to the nations. Time and time again, God has been faithful to open doors that only He can. When we set out 5 months ago, we never dreamed of some of the doors He would open. Scotland was a surprise for sure, but it was in the UK which was a place we knew we would be going. However, God opened an unexpected door for us to be in Kosovo for a short time. This was not a place we ever thought that we would be coming. God knew that He needed us here, so He opened the door wide.

One of my friends contacted me and said that she had been following our adventures on our blog and knew that God was telling her to invite us to come to Kosovo. I had never gotten to know her very well, and in fact did not even know she was in Kosovo. Even though we had not been in contact for 2 years, she invited us. We had a difficult time making the decision to come because of our money situation, but we knew that God had opened the door and that we must be obedient to walk through it.

Knowing we were coming here, my wife decided to do some research about the recent wars that had taken place. As she researched, and we prayed about this country, even before we traveled here, God began to speak to me. He began to speak about how the nation was wounded and needed to be healed. As with any serious wound, you do not put a Band-aid on it and walk away. Any serious wound needs to be stitched up. I know this from many injuries in my younger days. The larger and more serious the wound, the more stitches are needed. God began to speak about how every prayer and every act of love was a stitch that was binding up an open wound. This wound that may be healed on the outside must be healed in the soul of the nation as well. If the wound of the soul is not healed, it will often be reopened as a self-inflicted one.

I believe that the long-term prayers and actions of the church and ministries here is to bind love to the spiritual wound of the people. There has been so much suffering and hurt in the people that it seems like their very lives evidence a wounded spirit. This spirit is hurt deeply and ready for conflict. However, as the family of God binds love to the people, this will bring healing stitch by stitch, act by act, prayer by prayer… I found this verse as a confirmation of the work that needs to be done here in Kosovo, but also anywhere the people of God are.

Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

We are called to live as God’s chosen people. Even as we live in this manner, we know two things. We have wounds in our hearts and souls inflicted by people around us, and people around us also have these wounds. It seems that so many people are walking around with open wounds. We are commanded in these verses to live rightly, forgive completely, and love totally. We must bind love to ourselves and to the people around us that we may walk in perfect unity.

Ask Holy Spirit to reveal to you any wounds that you may have on your soul. Do these wounds come from others? Are these wounds remaining open because of unforgiveness or an unwillingness to love? Are there people around you that might be spiritually wounded?

With the help of Holy Spirit, begin to bind up these wounds and start the healing process in yourself, as well as the people around you, by forgiving and binding love to these wounds. Part of the ministry of Jesus, and our ministry, is to bind up the broken hearted (Luke 4:18). Let us walk in the ministry that God has called us to that we may live in perfect unity!!!

Rains of Revival

Previously my husband shared the word that the Lord had given him for Spain The Mighty Wind and the Dry Bones, however, I will recap a little bit before I share the word that God has given me. The day that we arrived in Spain Pastor JoseMaria picked us up from the airport, and he, with no relation to what we had been discussing, began to tell us about an unusually strong, strange wind that woke him up during the night a few times. I thought it odd that something so ‘strange and unusual’ would happen the night before our arrival. I immediately felt that there was something taking place in the spiritual and being made evident in the physical but decided to pray into this before sharing with anyone.

The next morning in prayer with Jeremiah, the Lord confirmed this word to me as he shared that this phenomenon caught his attention, and God had revealed the same thing to him. I took note of this and began praying throughout the week as to what this word meant for Spain. God reminded me of when Elijah prayed for rain. This event takes place at the end of the 3 1/2 year drought that Elijah prophesied over Israel as an affront to baal, who supposedly controlled the natural forces; which lead to the contest on Mount Carmel where Elijah challenged the people of Israel, King Ahab and the prophets of baal to choose who to follow. Two altars were built, to God and to baal, and God made Himself known as the One True God by consuming with fire the drenched altar Elijah built. Now that Israel made the confession that the Lord is God, Elijah informed Ahab that a mighty rainstorm was coming. Elijah took his servant, climbed to the top of the mountain, and humbled himself, bowing low to the ground with his face between his knees praying. Six times he sent his servant to look out to the sea and each time, the servant returned, having seen nothing. Elijah sent him the 7th time, and this time the servant returned saying in 1 Kings 18:44, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Elijah immediately rose, told Ahab to return to Jezreel with haste and the Lord gave Elijah special strength to run ahead of Ahab’s chariot, beating him on the 17 mile trek to Jezreel.

Next, Verse 45 says “a heavy wind brought about a terrible rainstorm.” Just as wind brings about a change in the atmosphere and climate, so does Holy Spirit. The Lord told me through these verses that the “rain is coming.” Spain, as Jeremiah said, can be seen as a very dry place spiritually. And indeed, there has been many years of spiritual drought here. But there are churches of believers, missionaries and those praying for His Spirit to sweep across the nation again. This unification brings about blessing (Psalm 133.) When the people of Israel saw that their hearts belonged to something that didn’t exist, they came back to God. It was then that the tide shifted, and the time had come for the rain. Though there was no physical sign that his prayers were effective, Elijah persisted, knowing that God would come through, until he saw the fruit come forth through the ‘small fist sized cloud’. James 5:16-18 says, “…The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.” The last word that God gave me was that just as God enabled Elijah with ‘special strength’ to return before the rain came, He is enabling the people, ministries and churches here with special strength to be able to house the flood of people that will come when revival arrives.

Are there areas in your life that have been dry and lacking fruit? Are there things that you have been praying and contending for so long that the lack of results has brought discouragement and a dip in your faith? Take heart! My husband and I know very well that the dry times are difficult. We went through 10 months of waiting for change and direction and thought He wasn’t speaking to us. What we found when we heard the final word of “GO!” was that God had been speaking all along; we had just been so set on seeing giant fruit that it overshadowed the small fruit appearing. Though the cloud was so small, it was a harbinger of the ‘terrible rainstorm’ to come, meaning that the small things bring about the great things yet to come. God is faithful, and we must look ahead for the tiny fist sized cloud giving way in the distance. Ask Holy Spirit to reveal where He is working in the small things, be thankful for those things, but continue to press in for the larger things.

Blessings,

Exciting English Adventures – Video Update #5

Our time in England was awesome and filled with tons of ministry opportunities! God moved in powerful ways and is stirring up revival, giving us a part in pioneering the way for it!
Check out what England was all about for us!

The Mighty Wind and the Dry Bones

Before we left on our journey, my sister had a prophetic vision for us. This vision was rather long, but part of it included that God would give us unique words and prayers to pray into the problems in the countries that we would be ministering in. God has been faithful to reveal to my wife, myself, or both of us unique things to pray over each place.

Upon our arrival, we rode with Pastor JoseMaria and his wife from the airport to his house. He mentioned casually that the night before we had come, an unusually strong wind had woken him up twice during the night. We thought nothing of this until we were praying and seeking the Lord the next day. God began to speak to us both, separately, that this was the wind of the Holy Spirit. After this was revealed, I began to study the characteristics of Holy Spirit and how the wind is used to describe Him. As I did, The Lord led me to Ezekiel 37. Here, The Lord takes Ezekiel to a field of dry bones. He tells him to prophesy to the bones. All the bones come together and flesh and skin even comes to the bones, but these people are still dead. Then Ezekiel is commanded to prophesy to the “Ru’ah” (this is the Hebrew word for wind and it is used interchangeably for wind, breath, and Spirit) that the bones may come to life.

Here, in Spain, the spiritual climate could be described as a dry and dead one. The church is Catholic, but none of the young people go to church. Those that do, often go out of duty and obligation and never out of desire to know God. However, Spain has a rich history and is even said to be a place where Paul journeyed during his lifetime.

There may be bones here, but bones speak that there was once life!!! No matter how hopeless and dry these bones seem, the wind of Holy Spirit is coming to breathe new life into these bones. When the Spirit comes it brings change to the climate. Even as the wind of the Holy Spirit is bringing life to the bones, He is ushering in a change of climate that is bringing the rains of revival. My wife shares here Rains of Revival what God has spoken to her on this subject, and this is how we have been praying for Spain. I believe that the churches are coming together in unity and begin to be formed into the body that they are supposed to be. As we pray and cry out for Holy Spirit to pour himself out upon this land, He will usher in revival and all that comes with it!!!

I urge you to pray this out not only over Spain, but over your life as well!!! In all of our lives, we have places where life has gone and death has come. Where is the vision of our younger years? Where is the passion of the Gospel we once had? Where is the faith in The Lord we were so eager to live in obedience to? Where has the desire to give ourselves as living sacrifices to The Lord and spend our time coming to know Him more?
Without the life and freedom Holy Spirit brings, we are walking in that valley of dry bones!!! I say to you prophesy to Holy Spirit and cry out to Him that the spiritually dead things in you may come back to life!!! Cry out to The Good Father and know “…your Heavenly Father [shall] give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” (Luke 11:13).

Partnership of The Prince and the Paupers

One week from today, my wife and I will have been traveling for five months. Now when we spoke about what God had called us to do, many people talked about us having an extended honeymoon. Whether they were joking or serious, I do not know. However, The Lord knows the reason He called us out immediately. So many people have commented as we travel that they wished they could do the same thing, but were so tied down it would be impossible. It seems that when people are young enough to travel and do the work of The Lord that they are discouraged by their lack of money. However when they do have money to travel, they are normally tied down until they are older, and their children are grown. After that, they do not have the life and energy they once did.

God called us out at exactly the right time. Many people think that mission work is all roses and honey, but it is not. For me, one of the constant things I have had to battle is not worrying about money. God has called us out to do this work, and I know that He has promised to provide. He has done this in many ways, but in the day to day it is hard to see where the provision is coming from. He has promised to provide for us in both our physical as well as spiritual needs. It seems like it is easier to trust The Lord for the spiritual things, because there is not much I can do differently to acquire these things. Yes, discouragement comes and attacks the vision, purpose, and the actions we are taking, but for me, this is easier to overcome. In the realm of the physical, I can see where money is coming from and where it is not. Should we write more blogs, make more videos, sell more things, (I actually own almost nothing now, my wife is richer in the world’s eyes because she has a car), ask more, pray more…? I do not know. But one thing I do know is that God is in control.

Recently, God opened a door for us to travel to Kosovo. As you may remember, only 15 years ago, there was a major war and genocide that took place here. The door that opened was obvious and had nothing to do anything we did. Because Kosovo is in a unique situation, the cost of travel from Spain to get there is about the same as if we went straight to India, which is the next place we know that we are going. Because of the money, we talked and prayed about if we got the right amount of money during one week’s time, we would see that as God sending us there. Six days passed and we received only $50 from some people in England. I was talking with The Lord in the bathroom how it did not seem possible that we could travel to Kosovo because of the added cost. Right now, we have no regular supporters and live one day at a time, and I did not see how we could bear this added expense. My spirit was overwhelmed by a word that I believe is from The Lord. As we have traveled, even before we left, we have prayed for three specific things: protection, provision, and open doors. I could see very clearly that this was an open door, but was disheartened because of the expense. The word I felt was from The Lord was this. “Why would we not walk through an obvious open door just because we did not see the provision?” I know in the eyes of the world, this does not make sense. However, this is the faith that we are all called to live by. We are to walk in obedience and not look at the circumstances of the world when our Heavenly Father is the One that gives us everything we need. It only takes a little pavement from the Heavenly Kingdom to provide for an all expense paid ministry trip around the world for two.

Now, I do not want anyone to think that this is a plea for financial support. It is not. If God speaks to you about giving to us, give. If He speaks to you about building up His Kingdom in a different way, than be obedient to that.
I want to encourage everyone that has a clear word from The Lord to follow that calling. Do not worry about the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that stand in the way of what He is saying. If The Lord has called you to follow Him in His work, He will easily melt the mountains like wax and make rivers come forth in the desert. It is not difficult for Him to move the obstacles out of our way. We cannot do it, but if we could, we would deserve the glory. All glory, honor, and power be to The Lord. As the Men and Women of God, we lift high His name and walk in obedience. He gets the glory when we are able to walk through impossible situations no matter what they may be.

I encourage you to keep on asking and keep on seeking the direction that God wants you to move and where He wants you to partner with Him in His Kingdom. When He speaks, be fully and completely obedient to everything He is calling you to do. The best thing about being in partnership with God is that He is the one that does all the hard work, all we do is walk with Him in obedience!!!

Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back in fear or sin, but we are of those who press in and believe to the salvation, healing, and deliverance of the souls in all the world!!!

Table Time

The Lord is amazing and His plans for us are far beyond the awesomeness of our own small ways of thinking. Currently, God has taken us back to Spain. I never thought a year and a half ago that we would be able to return here. In fact, on all my adventures in so many different countries, I have had to make close friends and say goodbye without ever expecting to see them again. However, now my wife and I are back with such good friends here in Spain where we had our first date. We have even been able to have an adult “sleepover” with the first couple we double dated with. The story of how our first date came to be in Spain is one for another time. Feel free to ask us about it when you see us. One telling of this story took almost 2 hours and no one really likes reading long blogs anyway.

Here in Spain, it is hard to find time to write because we are spending so much time with our family. Spiritual family perhaps, but still family. Spain is where we first began to learn about true community. When people in the church begin to meet every evening for prayer, sit at a table after a meal is over for an hour or two, go on walk together… This is how community is built. In our fast-paced way of living, we almost have to budget our time with our friends. We do not have more than 30 minutes or an hour for lunch before we have to get back to work. Here, the people are so much more important than the other things going on.

For me, this is what true family is all about. When I was growing up, our family always ate together around a table. There was no radio, tv or other distractions allowed there. We would sit and eat together and talk no matter how hard it was sometimes. Even as I have grown older, I cherish the times we get around a table and eat, though our family is not even on the same continent most of the time 🙂 For me, table time is family time. It is hard to be angry at your family when you always eat together. There may be arguments, but eventually you know you will be around the table and have to talk about what is going on. Usually, the problems seem silly as you talk about them. Even better than this is when you get to share your triumphs with those closest to you. The table is where you learn about each other and truly become family.

In Spain, the church is a family. Last Friday, we had an unplanned gathering. Marie called Nancy and decided to eat together. Before long, 10 people were sitting around a table laughing and sharing more than a meal, we were sharing family time. So, the real question comes up. Do we in the US want real community? Real community means sharing hurts as well as laughs. It means the giving up of ourselves for the good of others. It means walking beside someone in the hardest of times and never giving up on them. For me, the more a church grows in size, the harder it is to build community. However, a church can never be truly strong and healthy, no matter what the size, if the community of the people is not strong.

Ask Holy Spirit if you are engaged in true community and family. If so, ask how you can add to your family and invite others to become a part of the Community of Christ. If not, ask how you can develop a spiritual family and be a part of the community the way Jesus intended.
